Adventures in Babysitting

Who: Amber
What: Adventures in Babysitting
Where: @ home (I own it on DVD)
Why: It's a classic!

I can't belive this movie is over 20 years old! What makes it fun is that this sort of thing would never happen now a days, which is kind-of sad. First of all, cell phones and credit cards would've meant this movie would've been over in 5 minutes.

None the less, 3 kids (2 of which are in high school) and their babysitter (also in high school) venture into Chicago to find the babysitters moronic friend who ran away from home. Of course everything goes wrong, which makes for ridiculous and fun side stories. Singing the blues in a bar - check! Escaping from the mob - check! Almost getting beat up at a frat party - check!

Maybe it's because I babysat a lot growing up, or I used to live near Chicago, or I was the perfect age (13) when this movie came out, but I will never get tired of watching this flick!

I also heard that they are doing a remake of this movie. This terrifies me.

Beerfest

Who: Amber (& Jonathan)
What: Beerfest
Where: at home - thanks for free weekend of Showtime!
Why: Jonathan picked it out (probably b/c his brother was raving about it non-stop last summer)

I remember seeing previews on TV for this movie back in 2006 and thinking, "LAME - trying too hard to be funny - lame!!!" However, I taped Showtime 24/7 during trial week, and ended up with this movie on my DVR. I was pleasantly surprised. SPOILER - It actually has a plot! (hardy, har, har) It also has a lot of boobs (a lot of boobs!). Watching stupid beer games being turned into a hard core tournament was really cheesy fun! If I had a drinking past that involved drinking games, I would probably relate more to it and find it even more hilarious. Plus it stars that Indian guy from Super Troopers - he's always a lot of fun.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Who: Kerri, Scott, & Emily
What
:Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Where: Our Living Room
Why: Emily loves Tim Burton & Blood

Well Emily claims there wasn't nearly enough blood and gore. I think she needs to go see some flicks with Amber.

I'm not sure what I think of the whole movie. I liked that the main characters, (Johnny)Depp, (Helena Bonham)Carter, and (Alan)Rickman did their own singing. They obviously aren't professional singers, but they didn't make my ears bleed.

It's a tragic story of lost love and revenge, with murder and cannibalism thrown in for good fun, all while singing catchy little tunes.

I know, it's so cliche really.
There were a few times I had to turn my head, I do squirm at gore, and blood. Although it was much in the way of a "Kill Bill" movie, kind of over the top, but I'm wimpy. There were some nice plot twists in the film, and it did keep my interest.

You either love or hate Tim Burton. Yet I am still somewhere in the middle on pretty much all his movies. I think my favorite Burton film is probably Edward Scissorhands. But he's definately an acquired taste and this film is well done, I've not seen the stage play so I'm not sure what liberties they took or how it compares there. But I would guess if you were a Burton fan, or more importantly a Burton/Depp fan, you'll like it.

Feel free to Expound on my lame review.

300

Who: Alina
What: 300
Where: Movie Theatre when it first came out and now on cable
Why: Bill wanted to see it

I wasn't all that interested in seeing this movie. I knew the history and true to most movies based on mythology and those times it didn't really ring true to the actual story. Nevertheless, Bill wanted to see it and I obliged.

Was I wrong! It was a great movie! I like the way the movie looked with the colors and muted backgrounds. The war scenes are great, the story and liberties they took with it was great, the acting and visual effects were awesome! It's basically a period war movie so there was a lot of violence and a LOT OF BLOOD. It was gruesome and gory at times but it all goes with the "no guts, no glory" theme. *Bonus for the girls-300 hundred ripped guys with abs and pecs for days in red briefs and capes all marching down toward you. Yeah, that was the best and worth the movie theatre price alone!*

The Greatest Game Ever Played

Who: Amber & Jonathan
What: The Greatest Game Ever Played
Where: at home - recorded off cable about 8 months ago
Why: Jonathan picked it out

I really, really enjoyed this movie, and I wasn't expecting to at all. Even thought it was almost 2 hours worth of golf (Zzzzzzz right?) the way the movie was edited made each golf game fly by. Basically it was one giant montage of drives and puts, which was fine by me.

I was actually nervous at the end. "Is the kid going to win?!?" Even though, if the kid didn't win, it wouldn't get "the greatest game ever played".

And in true "true story" fashion, they had some paragraphs after the movie to talk about what happened to the characters for the rest of their lives. I love when movie do that!

Saw IV

Who: Amber
What: Saw IV
Where: home - rented from Blockbuster (thank you Coke rewards!)
Why: I love Saw movies!!!

I've been dying to see this movie (pun intended - ha ha ha), but now I'm just confused. Why is this guy carrying on Jigsaw's work (spoiler - but if you haven't seen Saw 1-3, you have no business watching Saw 4. This movie blends together pieces from Saw 2 and 3, and references Saw 1.)? I must admit, he's doing a darn good job of carrying out it out; the Saw 'traps' are fantastic, as usual. Let me just say - My hairline hurts!!! Gross!!! But, where did that guy from Saw III come from? Where is his daughter? I need answers! I guess I'll just have to wait for Saw V to come out.

P.S. Saw 1 is one of my all time favorite movies. While it is very scary, it also has a magnificant plot and the ending of all endings! I highly, highly recommend it. If you don't like scary movies, then watch it during the day. You should be ok. Saw II is ok. Saw III is great, and extremely gross! And Saw IV is pretty sweet too. If I were to rank them I would go: Saw I, III, IV and II. But you must watch them all in order, because each movie references the other ones A LOT!

Masters of the Universe

Who: Jaclyn
What: Masters of the Universe
Where: Home
Why: Nostalgia

So I decided to Netflix this movie to relive my childhood, which I've been doing a lot lately. However, I didn't remember this movie being SO awful. For those who don't know about this movie, it's a live-action movie of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, which was made popular by the 80's cartoon. You know, Skeletor, Orko, He-Man, Cringer, Teela, etc.

The acting is dismal and the effects are cheesy. I know that's pretty standard for 80's movies, but come on. This is a total slap in the face to the cartoon, which I'll admit is cheesy in its own way. I wonder if in the theater I actually stayed awake. Even as a seven year old, I imagine I was out like a light.

I wonder if they were to attempt to make this movie again (hopefully with a better script) if the characters would do the original series justice. They certainly didn't in this movie.

Blazing Saddles

Who: Bill
What: Blazing Saddles
Where: Turner Classic Movies, April 2008
Why: In the mood for laughs

I had long been familiar with Blazing Saddles, Mel Brooks’s 1974 parody of the famed western movie genre. But I had never seen it in its entirety. So when the Turner Classic Movies channel recently aired this film, I knew the time had come to finally see it. I was not disappointed. In fact, it is a virtual guarantee that you will laugh out loud. But, be forewarned that you will probably find the humor outrageously hilarious or outrageously offensive. Or both. Either way, it is a virtual guarantee that you will laugh out loud at some point.

The story is set in the Old West, circa 1874. The citizens of Rock Ridge have been terrorized by thugs, who are determined to scare them away so that a new railroad can be routed through the small town. When this fails, the corrupt state Attorney General (Harvey Korman) convinces the Governor (Mel Brooks) to appoint a new sheriff, who happens to be black (Cleavon Little). But this plan backfires when the quick-witted new sheriff named Bart teams up with an alcoholic gunslinger named Jim aka “The Waco Kid” (Gene Wilder). As the townspeople drop their prejudices, the whole town comes together to fend off the bad guys and keep their town.

In an ordinary Western, this story would be full of Intense Drama. But not in Blazing Saddles. No, the story is only the jumping off point for Wild Comedy. As such, there is occasional dialogue that could be offensive to some viewers. But again, it is all done as satire and not to be taken literally, especially when Bart and Jim go to a movie theater to watch the end of the film they’re in. This is 1874?! Not when they end up in 1974 Hollywood! It gives new meaning to the “Wild West”.

In addition to those already named, look for appearances by Slim Pickens, Madeline Kahn, Dom DeLuise, and John Hillerman (Higgins on Magnum PI). Also look for Alex Karras, best known at the time as a former Defensive Tackle for the Detroit Lions and less than ten years from co-starring in the sitcom Webster.

Hairspray

Who: Monica
What: Hairspray
Where: Where do you think?
Why: Because I just bought it, I was busy working on stuff and needed something I could half tune in and listen to, a musical worked well.

Mom & I saw this at the theater. I LOVE musicals. Old, new, whatever.

I'm not in love with this movie. I think it has great new talent and the music is very good. I am still bothered by John Travolta playing the Mom, I just can't take it. Gives me the creeps. An overweight, over energetic teenager dreams of being on a local TV dance show. (think America BandStand, remember that?) Her dream comes true and she gets on, is hopelessly in love with the popular boy. She is friends with the "negro" (their words, not mine) kids and loves to dance with them, picks up new dances at detention. She finds ways to fight to integrate the TV dance show. I'm trying to love it.

On my 1-10 scale, I'm going with a 6. It just doesn't draw me in, I'm not into the characters, I don't love all the songs (I like a few).

Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood

Who: Monica
What: Divine Secrets of the Yaya Sisterhood
Where: From my couch
Why: Because 3 movies a day wasn't enough----

Another $4 find, classic. I forgot how much I love this movie too. It's truly a southern charm classic. The cast is fantastic!!

Sidalee, who has a serious love/hate relationship with her Mother, is about to get married. She is interviewed in "Time" magazine about her Mom, she gives quite a "colorful" interview of her childhood. Her Mom of course reads it and flies off the deep end. I love when she's going around the living room taking Sida's pictures down. When my Grandmother gets mad at me, she does this!! Sida's Mother, Vivi, is part of a tight group of crazy friends, the YaYa's. They decide to get involved in Vivi & Sida's relationship and try to make amends. It provides for tons of laughs, lots of looking back and some big drama as well.

The southern dialog alone is reason enough to give this movie an 8 on my scale of 1-10!!

The American President

Who: Monica
What: The American President
Where: Still on the couch
Why: I bought it, hadn't seen it in years and am seriously wasting away a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

This is yet another movie I bought for $4 this weekend. I use to own it on VHS, taped off of HBO or something. I lost it and hadn't seen the movie in years. I can't believe it's actually about 13 years old, time flies.

I love this movie! Michael Douglas is the President who is a widowed Father and it's the year for re-election. Sydney, Annette Benning (who doesn't love her) is a lobbyist who has some hilarious moments when she first meets the President.

Sydney: I kissed him
Friend: Where
Sydney: On the mouth
Friend: Where in the White House
Sydney: The Dish room, the China room
Friend: Then what
Sydney: Then he had to go attack Lybia

It's for sure a quotable movie for me. I didn't realize just how much until watching it again, man tons of awesome things to quote! Sydney & Mr. President fall in love and date, a good love story, full of romance and dreamy situations. Michael J. Fox is fantastic as one of the President's super worried side kicks. I love when he says he can't participate in anything illegal in getting Sydney out of the White House after her overnight visit. Martin Sheen is also Mr. President's right hand man and that's funny since he goes on to play the President in the West Wing.

Surely everyone has seen this movie now, more than once. It's a good chick flick, if you haven't seen it in awhile, revisit it again.

On my scale of 1-10, I give this chick flick a 9!!

The Prince & Me 2

Who: Monica
What: The Prince & Me 2
Where: From the comfort of my couch
Why: Needed something else to watch while I worked on school stuff

Ok, this movie stinks! I love movies, especially sappy, romance, chick flick, fairytale junk. This sequel is absolutely horrible though!! I HATE when they make a sequel and the cast changes, ugh! Luke Mably returns as Prince Edward, but looks like a totally different person. He's not such a hottie anymore by the time this movie is made. Julia Styles is onto bigger and better things and doesn't appear in this one. Her replacement stinks!

Will their romance continue? Can they keep it together for a royal wedding? Will his former girlfriend, just shown up again and very use to the royal spot light, steal him back?

Sadly this wasn't worth my $4, wasn't worth putting in even while busy. I could have put in an old favorite for a 100th time instead.

Scale of 1-10, I'm going with a 3. I didn't turn it off and that says something I guess?

The Prince & Me

Who: Monica
What: The Prince & Me
Where: From the comfort of my couch
Why: I bought it this weekend, it's a lazy Sunday afternoon

My Mom and I saw "The Prince & Me" at the theater when it came out, several years ago now. I am sucker for a fairytale movie. It was on sale this weekend at our closing Hollywood Video and I bought it for $4.

Prince Edward (Luke Mably) from Denark wants to see "girls gone wild" (like he's seen on commercials on TV) in America and heads to Wisconsin where he thinks there are hot girls. He (and his personal aide) enroll in college to fit in with the 20 something crowd. He meets a pre med college student who is also a part time waitress (Julia Styles). I'm sure you can imagine what happens. Smoochie, smoochie, lovey, dovey, yadda, yadda.

He's kept the fact he's a prince a secret, of course she finds out. Will Paige be ok with her boyfriends royalty status or not? See the movie to find out.

I like this movie, it's fun and fairytale like for sure. It's sappy and sweet. Luke Mably is adorable, Julia Styles is a cutie. If fairytale movies aren't your style though, steer clear. On a scale of 1-10 in the sappy, chick flick, fairytale status... I give it a 7.

Poseidon

Who: Jaclyn
What: Poseidon
Where: At home
Why: Because there was nothing else on.

I liked this movie back when it was called Titanic. Just kidding. Well, sort of. This is yet another movie that has turned me off from the idea of cruising. In this movie, instead of building character stories first and then tragedy striking, they go right for the tragedy and how they pull together to get out of the ship. The problem with that is, you don't have an emotional attachment to these people beforehand, therefore, don't care if they make it out or not. It's just one fire ball after another and every other cavity being filled with water.

To make matters worse, there's an annoying child in it who everyone has to waste time looking for. It also has a very Armageddon feel to it when a father puts himself in danger so his daughter's fiance doesn't have to risk certain death. The only reason I kept watching this was because of Josh Lucas. Much like Dane Cook, he could just be on the screen doing nothing for 2 hours and I'd still watch it. Yowza!

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Who: Jaclyn
What: Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Where: AMC Pleasure Island
Why: $6 matinee baby!

I liked this movie! I'm proud to say my dirty sense of humor has been restored! Peter Bretter (Jason Segel) is dating TV star Sarah Marshall (Kristin Bell) and of course she dumps him for someone else. So afterwards, Peter does what everyone (I wish) does: goes to Hawaii to try to forget her. Only problem is, she's there with the new guy. It was really hard to hate the new guy, he was pretty cool, though a bit weird. The other people he meets while staying there are hilarious. My personal fave was the newlywed couple who are checking in before he does at the resort. Their story is priceless! Especially the husband's "beach tutorial" with a chess set.

It was awesome that they were at a resort I've actually been to! Ahh, memories.

Overall, a cute and entertaining movie. Any time Peter is near a keyboard or piano, it's comedy gold. But on a side note, be prepared to be flashed in the first 15 minutes or so. ;)

The Wicker Man

Who: Amber (& Jonathan)
What: The Wicker Man
Where: at home - free HBO weekend!
Why: I love Nicholas Cage, plus (from the previews I remember) this was a horror movie, and I like horror movies.

From the previews (I saw a long time ago) I was expecting some fake enchanted scary forest killing people. But this is an actual movie with an actual plot - not just some random horror movie! Actually, I would not classify this 'horror' at all. It wasn't very scary - more of a detective suspence thriller. However, the ending does not leave you with a good taste in your mouth AT ALL. It's not a movie you can watch all over again, but I'm glad I gave up 2 hours of my life. I'll take some Nicholas Cage any day. I guess this is a remake too - although I never saw the original. I've read that this is a really horrible remake. So I guess if you've seen the original - skip this one!

The Jungle Book (1967)

Who: Bill
What: Walt Disney's The Jungle Book
Where: at home - Two Disc Platinum Edition DVD
Why: Melanie and I wanted to watch a fun movie

A protective panther. A menacing tiger. A sly snake. A fun-loving bear. Dancing monkeys. One clueless boy. And only hours until… THE ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN!

Okay, so I’m being a little over-dramatic. In actuality, Walt Disney’s "The Jungle Book" is a fun movie with plenty of memorable music and a brisk pace that leaves the viewer wishing it was a little longer (running time is 78 minutes). In fact, you likely will be humming "The Bare Necessities" and "I Wanna Be Like You" long after the movie ends. There are a memorable range of voices from Singer/Bandleaders Phil Harris (Baloo) and Louis Prima (King Louie), the distinctive Sterling Holloway (Kaa), and the sophisticated British accents of George Sanders (Shere Khan), J. Pat O'Malley (Colonel Hathi) and Sebastian Cabot (Bagherra). It's great entertainment that appeals to all ages, especially fans of Disney's animated features.

"The Jungle Book" has been released on DVD to commemorate the 40th anniversary of its original release. Disc One is the movie itself, with digitally remastered video and sound. Disc Two contains the bonus features including new documentaries about the movie that will appeal to adults, and games and activities for the kids.

Juno

Who: Jaclyn
What: Juno
Where: At home
Why: People raved about this movie.

I would LOVE to know when I became a prude. I used to pride myself on my dirty sense of humor but I found nothing funny or good about this movie. Well, I take that back, the quote : "Next time I see that Bleeker kid, I'm going to punch him in the wiener!" was sort of priceless coming from Juno's dad. I guess the topic of teen pregnancy just isn't all that interesting or shocking anymore *cough* Jamie Lynn Spears *cough*.

I'm completely confused about "the chair" and who it belonged to, why it was in a yard and why it took a pilgrimage to Paulie Bleeker's front lawn other than for Juno to tell him she was pregnant. Plus, I find it quite hard to believe that any 16 year old would talk the way Juno does. Given all the hype, I was ready for a great movie. Sadly, it did not deliver. (No pun intended)

Death At a Funeral

Who: Jaclyn
What: Death At a Funeral
Where: At home - Pay-per-view (I was bored).
Why: British comedies are usually quite twisted.

I had a lot of time on my hands and this movie was one of the options for Pay-per-view. I gave it a whirl and was not disappointed. At first, it was a bit slow, but it didn't take long for the humor to begin. The characters all have their own drama going on and they intertwine in a comedic way. Everyone is gathered for the death of the main character's father and Peter (Peter Dinklage) shows up to throw a wrench into this family's already nutso lives. Side note - another good Peter Dinklage movie is The Station Agent. However, my favorite character had to be Simon (Alan Tudyk) he is drugged throughout most of this movie (not by his own doing), and the drugs that keep on giving make more people "suffer" before the end of the movie. I know this isn't a fabulous blog, but it is my first (be kind) and I didn't want to give too much away about the movie. But it really is worth a watch!

Walk Hard

Who: Amber & Jonathan
What: Walk Hard - the Dewey Cox Story
Where: Blockbuster rental (thanks Coke rewards!)
Why: Jonathan picked it out

I can go either way on parody movies. If I enjoy what is being made fun of, then I normally find it hysterical. However, if I don't care about the subject, then I find the parody lame. In this case, I had no feelings towards Johnny Cash or Ray Charles, or what ever they were trying to make fun of.

However, I though this movie was really, really funny! I bet there was tons of stuff I didn't understand, but it was still enjoyable.

If you are a TV or movie fan, I bet you $1,000 that you will say, "hey, that's _______!" at least 14 times during this film. I think every single person in Hollywood (past and present) is in this movie. I bet you don't recognize all 4 Beatles!?!

Side note: The unrated version (which we watched) is called unrated for a reason. Hello frontal nudity!!!

21

Who: Rochelle & Bob
What: 21
Where: (Stinky) Pleasure Island AMC
Why: Sounded good, we were available, and had free passes

This was an interesting movie. Kevin Spacey plays a professor at MIT who puts together a team of really smart people to go to Las Vegas and win big money through card counting. The main character, Ben, is this low-key brainiac who needs $300K to attend Harvard Medical School. Spacey's character recruits him to be a part of the team and the story progresses from there. The story starts out a little slow but it gets pretty exciting half way through--just stick with it. It was really neat watching "Ben" transform from this quiet, shy guy to this confident, high-roller young man. He was a good guy in the fast lane but all along he treats his mom well. He learns some valuable lessons about friendship and you get a glimpse of what it would be like to be swimming in money. The best part was when the professor asks a statistical question to his class about picking between 3 doors to win a prize. I actually knew the answer! What I found the most intriguing was that "Ben" hid his money in the ceiling of his dorm room. Wads and wads just stuffed behind a panel. While "Ben" was no doubt a genius, wouldn't it have made more sense to put that money in the bank to earn interest! Duh!

Revenge of the Nerds II

Who: Amber (at 7:30am - why am I awake on Saturday this early?!?)
What: Revenge of the Nerds II - Nerds in Paradise
Where: at home - DVR'ed off some channel - I knew it would come in handy at some point
Why: Just something mindless to watch

Being a child of the '80's, I LOVED Revenge of the Nerds (the original). This movie is the same group of nerds (minus Anthony Edwards, the original, 'cuter' nerd - he has about 15 minutes of screen time - I guess he wasn't 100% in, just 5% in).

This time the nerds are in the greatest place for Spring Break ... wait for it ... Fort Lauderdale, FL!!!! The bikini's are totally '80's, the hair is totally '80's, the "cool fraternities" all have on shirts with the collars standing straight up ... you get the idea. It's always fun to watch random '80's movies because you recognize famous people who were just getting their starts. Check out that "cool" guy - he looks familiar! Check out the cute little hotel reception clerk - she looks familiar!

I also DVR'ed Revenge of the Nerds III. That will have to wait for another mindless Saturday morning.

Pan's Labyrinth

Who: Amber (& Jonathan)
What: Pan's Labyrinth
Where: rented from Blockbuster (thank you Coke rewards!)
Why: Jonathan saw 20 minutes of it on TV at 2am one night, and wanted to see the entire movie.

Let me just start by saying I do not enjoy artsy movies. If a movie has been nominated for ANY awards, I normally don't touch it with a 10' pole. And a movie with subtitles - forget about it! Never the less, my husband rented this movie, and I watched it ... wait for it ... it's wasn't bad! Even with all the subtitles, I still enjoyed it.

From the previews I thought it would be all labyrinth, all the time, but it was only about 10% mysterious weirdos inside the labyrinth and 90% story about a family during WWII. I actually wanted more of Mr. Eyeballs in his Hands (weirdo inside the labyrinth with no genetalia (sp?)). So from a hater of 'good/award winning'' movies - I slightly recommnend this! Just make sure you put your reading glasses on

The Departed

Who: Rochelle and Bob
What: The Departed
Where: Universal Movie theater
Why: It was the only movie playing at the time we arrived.

With the heavy hitters in this movie you knew it was going to be good: Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Walhberg, Martin Sheen, Matt Damon, Alec Baldwin, etc. It was direct by Martin Scorsese too - a big guy in the movie business. It won 4 Oscars! So in my opinion it was a good movie but it comes with a huge asterisk! I have never in my life seen such a violent movie. The story was super-great! Tons of suspense and twists and turns but I literally lost count of how many times I saw someone get shot in the head. It wasn't a bang, bang your dead scene either. It was a shot of the bullet entering the head and blood squirting everywhere. If you like good guys versus bad guys with uncertainty of who the mole is this is the movie for you... assuming you have the stomach for the gruesome stuff and horrific bad language. I don't know how this one will ever make it to a TV without re-doing the whole movie.

Enchanted

Who: Amber (& Jonathan)
What: Enchanted
Where
: at home - my husband bought the DVD
Why: LOVE IT!!!

It was a given that I would see the movie Enchanted in the theaters - but 4 times?!? Well, 2 times we saw the movie on the Disney Cruise Line's theaters, but that still counts right?

So of course we bought the movie the day it came out on DVD. It's such a cute movie. The story is happy and sappy - but not too sappy. The songs are cheesy and fun - but not too cheesy. And who knew that James Mardsen (sp?) was such a dream boat? I'm a sucker for any guy who can sing. I did find the talking chipmunk a tad annoying, but not enough to ruin the movie for me. And the dragon at the end - that was too cheesy for me, but again, not movie ruining.

And why is the girl from Bones (TV show) at the end. Very random.

After you see this movie and buy the sountrack (which you must!), look up Enchanted on Wikipedia. There is a HUGE list of 'hidden' Disney thnigs to find in the movie. Did you recognize the receptionist? How about the soap opera star?

Nanny McPhee

Who: Amber (& Jonathan)
What: Nanny McPhee
Where: at home - free HBO weekend
Why: Jonathan wanted to watch it

I normally cannot stand movies with bratty kids, and I can barely understand English/British accents (very pathetic - I know), so I was not leaping out of my skin to see an English nanny-to-seven-bratty-kids movie. However, I really, REALLY enjoyed this one! Nanny McPhee is a sweet hard ass (as opposed to a complete hard ass), and the kids are more cute, than bratty. Plus all the wild colors in an 1900's Victorian style house made it fun to watch. I highly recommend it!

The Break-Up

Who: Amber (& Jonathan)
What: The Break-Up
Where
: home - TiVO'ed off free HBO weekend
Why: I love Vince Vaughn!

As a girl I really liked this movie. My husband ... not so much. I enjoyed it because it was (semi) realistic. Granted, Jennifer Aniston kept playing stupid games instead of actually talking to Vince Vaugh about her feelings, but I really liked watching 2 'realistic' people live their lives. And, not to spoil the ending, but it's very unexpected.

And the opening credits full of photographs - genius! I felt like I knew the couple and was so happy for them. I could've watched 2 full hours of opening credits. I think all men should be required to watch this movie as an educational tool. Plus, Vince Vaughn is his hilarious, fast talking self.

Run, Fat Boy, Run

Who: Amber (& husband Jonathan)
What: Run, Fat Boy, Run
Where: AMC at Pleasure Island (Disney)
Why: Jonathan wanted to see it

Very, very good movie! I'm not a fan of Simon Pegg's other work (Please husband of mine, doin't make me watch Shaun of the Dead again!!!), so I really wasn't looking forward to more British humor at all. This wasn't cheese-ball humor, laugh out loud (if you think it's funny - which I don't) humor, this was grinning ear-to-ear, I feel good about myself humor. And the realistic ending - thank you movie writers!!! I'm also a sucker for people doing long distance runs (having done one myself). Quick - see it before it disappears from theaters (or wait 3 years and watch it on Comedy Central's "British Comedy" weekend).
